Audi Reveals New A8 Hybrid in 2012

After the presentation of the A8 Hybrid Concept in 2010, Audi is introducing its frugal four-cylinder limousine, which goes on sale in 2012. Audi had made very few changes to the model such as the smaller (18" instead of 21") but same alloy wheels and conventional looking engine cover.



The car features the same parallel hybrid powertrain that combines a modified 2.0-liter turbocharged TFSI gasoline engine delivering 211HP and 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) of torque, with a disc-shaped electric motor that develops 40 kW (54HP) and 210 Nm (154.89 lb-ft). Its short-term system output is rated at 245-horsepower and 480 Nm (345.03 lb-ft) of torque. The A8 Hybrid goes from standstill to 100 km/h (62mph) in 7.7 seconds and has a top speed of 235 km/h (146 mph).



Its fuel consumption is under 6.4 liters per 100 km, and CO2 emissions below 148 grams per km. In addition, it can travel on electric power alone at speeds of up to 100km/h (62mph) for a distance of up to three kilometers or 1.86 miles at a constant 60km/h (37 mph).



There are three different modes to drive in which "EV" stands for electric drive, "D" where the system controls both the engine and the electric motor, and the "S" mode for a sportier driving style.

2012 Audi TT RS Launched in Texas

Audi has just released info about its new 2012 Audi A6 Avant. Its body is comprised of bits of aluminum and the A6 benefits has a composite construction that keeps the passengers safe. This lightweight approach has helped the 2012 A6 Avant drop 66 pounds versus the previous model and its as much as 154 pounds lighter than the one it replaces. The base A6 2.0 TDI Avant weighs just 3,616 pounds.

Audi Q3 pictures released before Shanghai debut

Audi has confirmed that its 2012 Q3 crossover will be launched at the Shanghai Motor Show. Before its release, Audi has released its pics hinting what we can expect in a few weeks time.

Audi celebrates A4's five-millionth birth

The Audi A4 is roomy for its class and efficiency. It's no wonder that Audi has managed produce its five-millionth A4 at its Ingolstadt plant, in Misano Red. The model comes as a wagon or sedan, plus available Quattro all-wheel-drive, an S variant and a CUV-ish Allroad model that isn't sold in the States. Frank Dreves, Member of the Board of Management at Audi, calls A4 number five million as another major milestone in Audi's history.

2012 Audi R8 GT starts at $196,800

Audi has announced that the 2011 R8 GT to be released will carry price tags starting at $196,800. The R8 GT contains a 5.2-liter FSI V10 with 560 horsepower, mated to Audi's R-Tronic sequential transmission. It also has a four-wheel-drive system with a locking rear differential to backup the transmission. It has been built with more aluminum and carbon fiber compared to standard car which translates to a 180-pound weight loss.

Audi struggles to meet buyers demand

The Volkswagen Group wants to reach the number one in global sales and profits. In order to achieve it, Volkswagen has to increase its production of Audi. Audi has been struggling to meet the demand for A3 and A6 and hence buyers have been waiting for 3 to 4 months to take delivery.

Though the waiting times are longer, car buyers are not willing to leave Audi and choose BMW and Mercedes-Benz. All these three automakers have reported record sales in January and the waiting times are much longer for vehicles like BMW X3.

While all these three auto makers are struggling to meet the demand, Audi is in the toughest spot with wait times up to 2 months longer than its competitors. Since Audi contributes 47 percent of VW's profits, Volkswagen group should address this problem in a timely manner.

Audi A6 Hybrid not available until 2015

During the last week's Detroit Auto Show, Audi revealed the 2012 A6 Hybrid. This hybrid variant is capable of achieving 38 miles per gallon and can run up to 62 miles per hour on electricity alone but Audi is not sure of when this car will be available.

Johan de Nysschen, the president of Audi in America tells that the timetable for A6 hybrid is not yet determined. He also said that this gas and electron-powered sedan may not be available until 2015.

Audi A1-Etron - An alternative to the BMW Mega City

Audi has come out and stated that the German automaker is butting heads with its parent company. The two has been having conflicts over the creation of the Audi A1 E-tron. Volkswagen was riled when they came to know that Audi wanted to launch a range-extended EV with a gasoline rotary engine instead of following the rest of the VW family.

Reports state that Audi wanted to create an alternative to the BMW Mega City Car. Volkswagen would like to have all the brands under its watch and use similar platforms. Audi says there's no conflict between the two companies but Volkswagen has not commented for this.

Audi R18 - A diesel racer

Audi has released its latest LMP1 racer, the R18. After winning nine times in the Le Mans 24 Hours since 1999, the Ingolstadt-based automaker aims for the top spot with a closed coupe again. Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich says that aerodynamic efficiency will be more important at Le Mans in the future.

2012 Audi RS6 Sports Sedan

Audi pushes for solar program

Audi will be introducing a new solar program for its eTron electric vehicles. Audi is also planning to expand its solar panel system so that electric vehicle's batteries may be charged using clean, renewable energy from the sun. It hopes to cover some 80,730 square feet of the plant's roof with new photovoltaic panels. By the end of the project, it will have nearly 205,000 square feet of its German manufacturing facility's roof covered with the solar cells and the new installation alone can produce enough electricity to power 180 homes.

The 2012 Audi A6

The German automaker's new 2012 Audi A6 sedan has leaked out. The stylish front and rear LED lighting treatments, and the interior appears to be a thing of beauty. The powerplant options which Audi will bestow upon the 2012 A6 is not yet known, but the car has has a six-cylinder turbo diesel. Globally, we're counting on a full slate of gasoline and diesel engines along with optional Quattro all-wheel drive, while in the States we're likely to get a couple of petrol engines, a single TDI option and standard AWD.

Audi to launch plug-in hybrid in 2014

By the year 2020, Audi would be the leading premium seller of electric vehicles. In addition to launching a number of hybrid vehicles including the A8 and Q5, Audi plans to debut a plug-in hybrid in 2014.

Michael Dick, Audi's board member for technology says that he wants to see the automaker's internal combustion engines improve efficiency by 30 percent, with 5 percent of the brand's lineup to be purely electric.

Audi hits one million sales in China

Audi has been producing vehicles in the Chinese market since 1988. Fast-forward 22 years into the future and Audi has just sold its one millionth vehicle in China. If you're curious, that one millionth vehicle is a metallic blue Audi Q5.

Audi began its Chinese production with the Audi 100, which was assembled in China from imported knock-down kits. Since the initial agreement signed back in '88, the Changchun assembly plant began doling out Four-Ringed vehicles to an eager market. Of the one million vehicles, 950,000 were produced in Changchun while 50,000 were imported than assembled there. The factory moved on from the Audi 100 and later the Audi 200, and it now produces the altogether modern Q5, A6L and the A4L.

New Audi Q7 3.0 TDI with 204HP V6 Diesel

A new EU5-compliant diesel engine has been added to the European range of its recently updated Audi Q7. The 3.0 liter V6 common-rail turbo diesel that drives Audi's large SUV delivers an output of 204HP (150 kW) and 450 Nm (331.90 lb-ft) of peak torque available between 1,250 and 2,750 rpm.

As with all Q7 models, the 3.0 TDI features a start-stop system that deactivates the engine as soon as the vehicle comes to a stop, and an energy recovery system that stores energy during deceleration, as standard. An eight-speed tiptronic transmission and quattro permanent all-wheel drive round out the drivetrain package.

Paris 2010: 2011 Audi A1 TFSI

Audi surprised us all when it took the wraps off its top-of-the-line A1 TFSI hatchback packing everything but the kitchen sink...and the S1 nameplate. The reason, according to reports, was that every S model in the company's history has featured Quattro all-wheel drive, but the PQ25 platform on which the A1 is based can't accommodate it. At least, not yet.

The UK's Autocar now suggests, however, that a business case is being made inside the Volkswagen Group to engineer the platform to accept the extra driveshaft. Doing so would allow for proper Quattro-driven S1, but that's not all. In order to justify the cost, the Volkswagen Polo could get a couple of models driven on all fours, including a Polo R hot hatch to slot in above the Polo GTI and a CrossPolo soft-roader with actual traction to back up its butch styling.
