Ferrari Customers temporarily buy available models

Ferrari

Ferrari waiting lists are long in Australia and indeed in the world. The average wait time for a Ferrari 575M Maranello was three years at one point. This demand rapidly stripped out the brand’s small production capacity. What else a cashed up Ferrarista can do is just buying whatever’s available and drive until your hot pink Ferrari 458 arrives with the diamante-encrusted wheel arches and baby seal leather interior.

Ferrari 458 Italia - 2011 Robb Report Car of the Year

ferrari 458 italia

Motor Trend may prefer the Chevrolet Volt, but the well-heeled readers of the Robb Report have a considerably different set of priorities when it comes to picking the best of the best. That's why the luxury magazine has decided to name the Ferrari 458 Italia as its Car of the Year.

The 458 scores high marks for its exterior design, interior materials and overall performance, and the Prancing Horse beat out thirteen other vehicles for the award. The stunning Italian sports car topped the Audi R8 V10 Spyder, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Aston Martin V12 Vantage, Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG, Bentley Mulsanne, Maserati GranTurismo Convertible, Audi A8L, Aston Martin Rapide, BMW Alpina B7, Rolls-Royce Ghost, Jaguar XJ Supersport, Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, and Lotus Evora.

Ferrari 458 Challenge at 2010 Bologna Motor Show

Ferrari 458 Challenge

Time has come for the 458 to taste the Maranello magic. The Ferrari 458 Challenge has been debuted at this year's 2010 Bologna Motor Show. This is the fifth model to get placed into a single-series racing program. The Challenge keeps the same 570 horsepower engine as the standard 458 Italia. Ferrari has focused on reducing the thickness of the body panels, as well as introducing materials such as carbon fiber and Lexan. All the upgrades found on the Ferrari 458 Challenge result in a potent, track-ready machine that is faster than the 458 Italia.

1985 288 GTO - World's fastest ferrari

1985 288 GTO
We've seen a lot of special action from the Bonneville Salt Flats this year, but this just about takes the cake. The guys from P4 by Norwood, a Ferrari tuning shop, are laying claim to the title of the World's Fastest Ferrari with a record run of 275.4 mph averaged over two sprints. Using a stock-bodied 1985 288 GTO, owner Steve Trafton managed to snag not only the title of world's fastest Ferrari, but the world's fastest sports car (AA/BFMS) at the same time. The Prancing Horse beat out the previous record holder by just over 3 mph.

Interestingly enough, Thrafton skipped using a high-dollar Italian mill for this car's beating heart. Instead, there's a 540 cubic-inch big block General Motors V8 wedged down into that slinky body. Two Borg Warner 80-mm turbos help shove a full 17 pounds of boost into the eight-pot. Thrafton isn't saying exactly how much power the car is laying down, but it has to be enough to move a planet on command if need be. Hit the jump to watch the Ferrari do what it does best on the Utah salt.

Ferrari California featuring HELE system

ferrari california
The theme shown at this years Paris Motor Show, is automakers showing vehicles which don't seem to relate with the company's past history. Ferrari just added a vehicle fitted with a HELE system to the growing list. HELE means High Emotion Low Emissions and is a system designed to reduce C02 emissions.

The HELE System works by utilizing a start/stop function that can restart the car in 230 milliseconds, an intelligent engine fan and fuel pump control, electronically controlled variable displacement air-conditioning technology and adaptive gear shifts. The result is a 23 percent reduction in C02 emissions.

We may think that automakers are moving away from their traditional vehicles, but it's these cars that allow them to build the ones we love. For example, there would be no Porsche GT2 RS without the Cayenne. The Ferrari California fitted with the HELE System shows that the purveyor of the Prancing Horse understands the world is constantly changing – and Ferrari is doing its best to continue to build the cars it's known for while staying in tune with the current climate of the world.

Ferrari Enzo's successor will be a hybrid

Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo confirmed that the successor to the Enzo throne will be available with a hybrid drivetrain. According to him, the electrified supercar will borrow heavily from the company's 599 HY-KERS concept that debuted at this year's Geneva Motor Show. That vehicle used hybrid tech derived from the kinetic energy recovery system that Ferrari experimented with on its F1 vehicles.

Previously, Ferrari has said that the incorporation of a battery pack and an electric motor would allow the company to continue to offer high-cylinder-count engines while offsetting fuel consumption and emissions. The company has also made it clear that it intends to begin moving toward smaller models to further reduce weight.

The news came as Montezemolo announced that he has no intention of moving from his post at Ferrari to greener pastures in the Italian government. The chairman said that he fully intends to stay at the company long enough to help craft the vehicles in the next product cycle, each of which will follow in the footsteps of the Enzo successor.
